Raising our glasses
to those who raised the stakes.

Sports Podge has always celebrated the triumphs, friendships and legacies forged through sport.

Over our sixteen years we've honoured athletes who have blazed trails, broken barriers and lit fires inside that no amount of water could ever extinguish. What we – oddly – haven’t done is shine a light on those who have celebrated their victories right alongside them – from the sidelines.

I’m talking, of course, about the coaches. Those who have put in the time to nurture, shape and transform natural athletes of all stripes into supernatural champions of all types.

So, with all that (finally) front of mind, we’re making time this year to celebrate the coaches who have made the time to make us great. From the local heroes who are there on day one to those who stand by us when the medals are won.

It may be a new theme, but the format is much the same. We’ll be making time to catch up with friends old and new while enjoying a superb lunch without time-draining auctions, awards or (overlong) speeches.

It’s time to spend with living, breathing humans – and a handful of superhuman sporting legends, too. As ever, the food comes courtesy of the IoD’s award-winning chef, accompanied by fine wines from the IoD’s cellar.

Great venues, great food and a bar that never runs dry have always been at the heart of Podge (hence the name). So forget all that ‘body is a temple’ business for an afternoon, an evening and maybe a morning after, and come raise a glass to those who raised the stakes.

It’s about time we made time for those who always gave us the time.

Coaches, this one’s for you.

Pina Colada (coconut cake, flambe pineapple, coconut mousse, rum caramel sauce)
